About the Author

Howdy, Mabel here .... I live on 40 acres in the suburbs of the boondocks, where the deer & the antelope play. At 5,000 feet in the mountains of northern California, I only go out once or twice a month in winter. The mailbox is 4 1/2 miles down the road. The solitude and quietness of this high desert country and living with my critters is a dream come true.  I "Ma Kettle" my own hay barns, sheds, fences, chicken houses, etc. Like my Granma Mabel always said: Where there's a will, there's a way; Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.

Julio, my grandson, stayed with me for 6 weeks the summer he was 8 years old. When he went back home, this whole concoction poured out of me during two weeks while I sat amazed at my computer; there was no plan about what would happen next. The characters came alive and became very real to me.

The Other Side of the Well is a fantasy adventure for the young at heart, about Granma and Julio getting sucked down the well and coming out on the Other Side.
